Finding the Still Point

I went to a workshop on Saturday that was titled "Finding the Still Point". One should know up front that when a session is only 45 minutes long, finding the still point will be an elusive goal. About the only answer you can get in that amount of time is "meditate".

After the last two days, I am wondering if the still point is an elusive objective in my life right now. It seems that as soon as things settle down in one area, they blow up even worse in another.

At the moment, I am only working three days a week due to a cash crunch at the office. The down side (besides lower pay) is that the work load is still there, but now the stress is greater. Opportunities that should excite me only seem to be "piling on" at the moment.

Time to recall some serenity from months past.

Why I Need a Loft to Rest In

The house phone just rang. Hugh looked at the caller ID and answered it.

He says hello three or four times, looks puzzled and hangs up.

Who was it, I ask.

It was Bob's cell phone, he says, and rattles off a number.

What was that number?

He looks it up on the caller id, and then has the good grace to at least look sheepish.

Because his cell phone, in his own pocket, accidentally called the house number and he didn't even recognize the number on caller id.

Dibs on the first Sunday evening in the loft!

Preview Party!

Alright ladies, we have a golden opportunity to view the models at the lofts. I've arranged for us to visit the models, and to best simulate our future plans for our loft, there will be wine and hor d'oeuvres available for our enjoyment. Please mark Thursday, January 29th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on your calendars.

Um, okay Cindy - you know I'm stretching the truth a bit here. January 29th is the Ground Hog Days Wine Sampling at the Emerson Lofts. Tickets are $25 each or $45 per couple, and the proceeds benefit the Family Health Partnership Clinic. Sounds to me like a fun night ot benefit a great cause.

And since my peripatetic husband will be out of town that night, I am looking for a date. Anyone else going stag that night? Let me know!

Happy New Year!

Once upon a time, at the dawn of 2009, several female friends gathered and laughed about the idea of renting a loft as their shared "getaway" space. And so "Aloof in a Loft" was born.

The basic idea - we would assemble a group of 13 to share in this space. Each of us would be responsible for one month's rent, and the 13th person volunteered to clean the loft. (Cindy, we WILL remember this pledge!) The loft would be OUR space - to gather for book club, to get away, to donate to community functions, and just to have fun.

So the question is - will we do it? Will we really become aloof in our loft?

Stay tuned...
